If you don’t know much about me, but certainly I’ve shared in other articles, the Bible is the most important book in my life. I try to follow its guidelines, its rules, its laws, its decrees, its principles. And what it says about family has rocked me. If you look at the very beginning of the story and Genesis, it starts with a family. The first command from God to Adam and Eve was be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. And he wanted to do that through families. And the whole story is really about families and the rocky journey they went on. But the end of the story, if you look at the end of the Bible, is one big giant family. It ends with this idea of the sons and daughters of God, brothers and sisters.
I’ve been married, it will be 17 years in December. I have five children. Beyond doing great work in real estate and flipping houses too, and giving you an excellent experience as your real estate agent, I’m raising these kids, I see as my primary job in my life, and what I’m aiming for is to be sitting around my dining room table when I’m a grandfather with their kids and their kids. And I tell this a lot to people about Cincinnati in general and real estate. One thing that I think is very unique about Cincinnati is it’s a city that’s built of families. It’s a city where your roots can grow deep generationally.
I’ve told this story before, but before my grandfather died, he had three kids and they all moved away. My parents were from… They were high school sweethearts in Northern Michigan, kind of a farm town area. And I asked my grandfather before he died, “Was that hard on you when your kids left? They all moved away.” They moved to Chicago and Dallas and Cincinnati. He said, “Well, there weren’t any jobs here.” And it was at that moment I looked at my brother who lives here locally in Cincinnati as well. I’m like, “We’re staying here.” Because this city is economically diverse enough, and it’s big enough and small enough where it’s like our kids can get jobs in various ways if they don’t want to join our business. There’s other things that can kind of fuel that ambition.
They might go to New York or San Francisco or Seattle. They might go to other cities, but it’s small enough too, where there’s a real sense of family and roots and you can be around your grandkids. That’s a huge, huge goal of mine. And so there’s a question that was asked to me many years ago by a friend who said, “Have you ever thought about your great, great, great grandson?” And I was like, “Duh, no. No, I have not.” But it was like, what is the kind of life I need to live now that would have an impact on him in the future.
And that’s the story I read in the Bible. When I look at Abraham who was looking forward. He lived in tents his entire life. And yet he was looking forward to this city that was built by God, that was full of his family and the families of the earth. All right, enough Bible time. If you guys get me going on that I could go for hours, but it ties into this excitement. It ties into this news that I’m just pumped.
